The large red Lalla Fouta fouta is embroidered, measures 1 x 2 m and weighs just under 500g. It is made from 100% quality cotton. Lightweight and sturdy, it can be taken everywhere with you. When traveling, it’ll slip easily into your suitcase. It wipes just as well as a normal towel, despite its smooth texture. The remarkable quality of its cotton fibers, woven using the flat-weave method, makes it a highly absorbent, quick-drying towel. At the beach or pool, you can use it as a towel or pareo. In your living room or bedroom, its dimensions and beautiful workmanship will enable you to use it as a bed or sofa throw. Finally, this large red fouta makes an ideal bath towel, adding a touch of sophistication and the Orient to your bathroom.
The fouta has become a staple of Moroccan textile craftsmanship. Originally, the term “fouta”, probably of Indian origin, refers to a fabric with multiple uses, from underpants to shawls and towels. It is this latter meaning that is commonly retained in the Moroccan language, as in most Arab dialects. This type of fouta is originally Tunisian, but has long been found in the bazaars of the cities of the former Ottoman Empire. It was only fairly recently (at the dawn of the 2000s) that Moroccan craftsmen reappropriated it. It’s now as popular with tourists as it is with Moroccans themselves!
The little extras: Each fouta is embroidered with the distinctive Sabrayal symbol, adding an original and chic touch to the foutas. A sabra tie (passementerie), in the fouta’s colors, is also offered with the fouta. You’ll also receive a fouta care guide.
